Cheers To These Best Fall Beers – Let’s have a Drink!
Embrace Fall: Cozy Up with a Delicious Brew
So, what are fall beers?
Fall beers are made with rich malts, comforting spices, and bold flavors that warm you up inside. Enjoying time with friends around a bonfire or winding down after an autumn day, the perfect autumn beer can make your fall season experience extra cozy and memorable.
What makes a fall beer?
Thinking about what makes a beer perfect for autumn? Let’s dig into the qualities of autumn beers and why they’re so loved during this cozy season.
Malty Richness
In the fall, a lot of beers tend to have a malty flavor. Unlike the light, refreshing lagers we enjoy during summer, autumn brews often have a richer and more complex maltiness. This brings out delicious hints of caramel, toffee, and toasted bread, which go really well with the hearty meals and cooler weather of the season.
Amber Hues
Fall beers reflect the changing colors of autumn leaves. Amber ales are a popular choice with their deep golden to reddish-brown hues. They get their color and a slightly toasted flavor from caramel and crystal malts, making them perfect for pairing with roasted meats and autumn vegetables.
Oktoberfest Tradition
No discussion of fall beers would be complete without mentioning Oktoberfest styles. They’re also called Märzens and are rich, malty lagers traditionally brewed in March and aged throughout the summer for drinking in the fall. Whether they’re true Märzens or the lighter Festbiers, modern Oktoberfest beers strike a perfect balance of maltiness and drinkability, making them perfect for seasonal celebrations.
Harvest-Inspired Brews
Fall is harvest season and many brewers make beers using freshly picked ingredients. Fresh Hop or Wet Hop IPAs are great examples. They use just-harvested hops to create vibrant, intensely aromatic beers. These brews offer the freshest taste of the hops.
Warming Alcohol Content
As the weather gets colder, many beer lovers enjoy stronger brews that give a warm feeling. Beers like imperial stouts or barleywines, with their rich flavors and higher alcohol content, are especially popular during this season.
Spice and Everything Nice
Some fall beers have spices that bring out cozy fall flavors. Adding a bit of cinnamon, nutmeg, or allspice can give you a taste of autumn baking. Brewers need to be careful to use these spices so they enhance the beer’s taste without taking over.
Versatility in Pairing
Autumn beers are perfect for fall meals, from stews to desserts. They have the right blend of flavors to go with strong dishes while still being refreshing. Whether it’s a classic Oktoberfest lager, a hoppy harvest ale, or a rich stout, autumn beers have something for everyone.
